PTAD Begins Payment of New Pension Increments

Pensioners under the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme (DBS) have received a boost as the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) commenced payment of new pension increments in the September 2025 payroll cycle. The adjustment includes N32,000, 10.66 per cent, and 12.95 per cent increments, aimed at cushioning the effect of rising living costs on retirees.

This development follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of an emergency budgetary allocation for the revised pension rates. PTAD confirmed that it secured a partial release of N20.188 billion out of the N45 billion approved by the President, enabling the first phase of disbursement to begin.

Officials noted that the payment marks a major step toward addressing long-standing pension arrears and improving the welfare of retired public servants. Pensioners welcomed the move, describing it as timely support amid economic hardship. PTAD assured that once the balance of the allocation is released, outstanding payments will be settled, ensuring that all eligible retirees benefit from the approved increments.
