The House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into the stalled takeoff of the government-funded modular refinery project in Brass, Bayelsa State, despite an investment of about 35 million dollars.
The decision followed a motion of urgent public importance raised by Billy Osawaru, who questioned why there is no visible progress on the project despite the reported huge financial commitment. He said the lack of tangible results raises serious concerns about accountability and project execution.
Following the motion, the House mandated its Committees on Downstream and Midstream Petroleum to probe the circumstances surrounding the expenditure and determine why the refinery remains non-operational. Lawmakers stressed the need for transparency, urging the committees to uncover possible lapses in funding, project supervision, or implementation to ensure that public resources are properly utilised.
