Dangote Group will convert 6,000 more diesel trucks to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), adding to the 4,000 trucks already converted. This move is part of the federal government’s push to promote cheaper and cleaner fuel alternatives under the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI). The programme’s coordinator, Michael Oluwagbemi, said Dangote and BUA Group are among the large companies leading the shift from diesel to gas to reduce costs and support the environment.

Oluwagbemi revealed this in a video posted on PCNGI’s official X handle. He noted that over 150,000 to 250,000 vehicle conversions are expected by the end of 2025 if the current pace continues. He praised Nigerians for embracing the initiative and described CNG as a “patriotic fuel,” adding that the project’s success depends on strong public support.

The PCNGI team is working with several government agencies, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, the Nigerian Automotive Development Council, and the Downstream Petroleum Authority, to ensure safety and speed in the conversion process. Over 5,000 technicians have been trained, and new gas stations are being set up nationwide with support from ministries of Transport, Gas, and Finance.
