The Federal Government has approved the extension of the Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto Road to Abaji in the Federal Capital Territory, expanding the project’s total length to 199 kilometres. Minister of Works, David Umahi, who disclosed this during an inspection tour in Nasarawa State alongside Governor Abdullahi Sule, said President Bola Tinubu approved the extension to strengthen interstate connectivity and enhance economic integration across the North-Central region. He explained that the project will be executed in phases, with the first seven kilometres already funded and under procurement, while the remaining 130 kilometres will follow under a revised construction plan designed for durability and a 50-year lifespan.
Umahi noted that the project’s expansion would ease traffic congestion on the Abuja–Lokoja Highway, reduce travel time, and open new investment opportunities for logistics, mining, and agriculture along the corridor. He warned underperforming contractors, particularly those handling the Mararaba–Keffi dual carriageway, of possible contract termination for delays and substandard work. Governor Sule commended the Federal Government for its continued support, describing the road as a lifeline for industries and farmers, particularly with the rise of new industrial operations such as the state’s lithium processing plant—the largest in Africa.
