President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s commitment, to prioritizing the transition to cleaner energy resources, as cornerstone of the national development strategy.
Tinubu revealed this in his speech at the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, ADSW 2025, holding in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.
According to the President, Nigeria is committed to achieving a net-zero emission by 2060, in line with global climate objectives, as “our energy transition plan like many nations, is aimed at diversifying energy sources and reducing our dependency on fossil fuel”, he said.

Tinubu said the country is developing infrastructure to utilize Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, and Electric Vehicles, while investing substantially in energy generation, through exploration of efficient and internationally certified data, to export the country’s solid minerals and critical metals, in support of the energy transition.
“As Africa’s most populous nation and one of its largest economies, Nigeria recognizes its responsibility to demonstrate the required leadership on this matter. We have embraced the vision of sustainability that aligns with global aspiration while addressing local realities”. The President said.
Tinubu anchored his administration’s efforts on sustainable energy on three pillars which include energy transition, climate resilience and sustainable development. “We recognize these problems from the word get go, from the inception. We recognize the importance of reducing carbon emission, and transition to clean and renewable energy”, he added.
“The fight against climate change is not merely an environmental necessity, but a global economic opportunity to reshape the trajectory of our continent and the global energy landscape. As leaders, stakeholders and citizens of our planet, we stand at a critical and crucial junction in human history. To succeed, we must innovate, collaborate and decisively collaborate as a global community,” Tinubu stated.
The President recognized the immense contributions of world leaders and stakeholders in coming together, to exchange views and perspectives on how to collectively address the present global challenges.
The weeklong ADSW 2025 brings together, global leaders, to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy and foster interconnected solutions for socioeconomic growth.
