U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Gaza militants, demanding the release of hostages before his anticipated inauguration on January 20, 2025. In a fiery statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump vowed decisive action if the hostages, held for over a year, are not freed.
“If the hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, when I take office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East,” Trump declared. “Those responsible will face consequences more severe than anything in the history of the United States. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!”

Trump’s comments come amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with the Biden administration struggling to negotiate a resolution to the Israel-Gaza conflict. Efforts to broker a deal that addresses both the hostage crisis, and the broader conflict have yet to yield results.
The situation escalated after Hamas launched a deadly assault on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in over 1,200 Israeli deaths, predominantly civilians. According to the Israeli military, 97 individuals remain in captivity in Gaza, with 35 presumed deceased.
